US Department of Energy to Announce Technology Funding Opportunities for Small Business

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science plans to announce a funding opportunity on August 17, 2015, for the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs. Under this grant opportunity, DOE will seek applications for funding directed toward FY16 Phase I projects. Details for this funding opportunity can be found at Topics include “High Efficiency Materials for Solid-State Lighting,” covering both LED and OLED source technologies and other technologies of interest to SEMI members such as microscopy, membranes and materials, vacuum chambers and instrumentation for chemical imaging.

A two-hour webinar to review topics 1–15 will be held Thursday, July 30, at 10:00 a.m. ET. Interested parties must register for the webinar in order to attend or to receive a link to the recorded webinar if you cannot attend in person. A webinar to review the SBIR/STTR programs and the award process as it relates to this announcement is scheduled for Friday, August 21, followed by a second, administrative webinar on Friday, August 28, that addresses important changes to the way indirect overhead rates are calculated and proposed; registration information will be posted soon at

Qualified small businesses with strong research capabilities in science or engineering in any of the research areas sought in the announcement are encouraged to apply for the SBIR/STTR funding opportunity.
